Air Timor and it’s direct air link between Singapore and the Timorese capital city of Dili, is one of the greatest steps in the development of Timor-Leste’s tourism industry since 1999.  The Air Timor link has opened wide Timor’s doors to the world, bringing with it new routes from trade and a new pool of nature loving tourists.

Air Timor has been very supportive of The Hummingfish Foundation for many years and we are extremely greatfull to all the members of their team for everything they have done to promote Timor-Leste and it’s many tourism assets.

About Air Timor
Air Timor S.A. is Timor-Leste‘s only operating Airline company operating scheduled services between Dili and Singapore. The airline has a defined strategy to become Timor- Leste’s International and Domestic Airline.

The airline is registered as a public stock holding company and has numerous public investors from Timor-Leste. The Board of Directors comprises three Timorese representatives including the Chairman, and one Australian and Singapore Director. The Head office of Air Timor is located at Dili International Airport, and an Administrative and Operational office has been established at Changi International Airport and a Representative office in Perth, Western Australia.

Air Timor first commenced its corporate life as charter airline under the name Austasia Airlines operating charters between Australia and Indonesia from 2001 until 2007.  In 2007 it relocated to Timor-Leste and Austasia Airlines was also registered in Singapore as well as Timor-Leste. Following approval from the Timor-Leste Government Austasia Airlines commenced its first scheduled charter flights from Singapore to Dili in August 2008 operating a twice weekly schedule on Tuesday and Saturday with a wet leased Airbus A319 aircraft from Silk Air.

In 2010 Austasia Airlines lodged its application to become a National company and change its name to Air Timor S. A. which was approved by the Timor–Leste government.

Air Timor has a clearly defined strategy to become the flag carrier for Timor-Leste and proposes to have three divisions International, Domestic and a Rotary Division. The first segment is in place and the International flight schedule will be increased to three in 2010. Studies and trials to commence the domestic division were completed in late 2009 and applications have been submitted with Civil Aviation Department of Timor-Leste to commence domestic flights in late 2010. Negotiations are also underway to commence the Helicopter Division in Timor-Leste under a joint venture.

The company believes it is vital for Timor-Leste to have its own national carrier because of the significant employment opportunities it can provide and the contribution it can make in creating employment for thousands of Timorese in the Tourism and Accommodation Industry. One of the key objectives of the company is to train, educate and employ Timorese in all facets of the Aviation Industry and play a strong role in developing Tourism in Timor-Leste.
